2006 JMML Working Group Meeting
A JMML Working Group Meeting, sponsored by the MDS Foundation, The JMML Foundation, and Dr. Bob Castleberry of the University of Alabama at Birmingham, was held on September 15 and 16, 2006 in Geneva, Switzerland at the Intercontinental Geneva. The goals for this working meeting included:
- Revise/review international criteria for JMML diagnosis and response
- Itemize/discuss potential objectives (clinical, translational, basic science) for a successor JMML study
- Discuss interest in and feasibility of an international collaborative JMML study
Feedback from this meeting showed that that the meeting was very productive and involved a lot of intense discussion, especially about signal transduction inhibitors, transplant-related topics, and new biologic assays. The general feeling was that this meeting made significant progress for the future of JMML research, in fact, more than the participants expected. An agreement was made among participants that two new identical protocols in Europe and North America would be developed and run in tandem so they could be analyzed as one.
They also agreed to the diagnostic criteria for JMML for these protocols and the response criteria for these protocols.
The MDS Foundation is transcribing audiotapes of these sessions, and there has been an agreement that a manuscript will be written by assigned writing groups and submitted to Leukemia Research for publication.
